Prayer Walking Guide

January 2-9 we are dedicating a week to prayer. We encourage you to take some time to prayer walk your neighborhood or city. Below you can learn more about what prayer walking is and some tips to implement your own prayer walk.

Prayer Walking Is:

• Being on a walk with Jesus – allowing Him to show you His neighborhood.

• Intentional prayer toward accomplishing the Great Commission:

- Ministries that are currently here.

- New ministries to begin in this neighborhood, including a future SCC coffeehouse.

• Spiritual warfare – Eph. 6:12 “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

• Vision-oriented prayer:

- Fertile ground.

- What is God doing in this area?

• Listening - Expect to hear what God would tell you about the area and yourself.

• Looking for opportunities to engage with others as you walk and pray.

10 Prayer Walking Tips

1 Keep your eyes open.

2 Pray Bible verses out loud.

3 Watch for God to show you what He wants you to pray for.

4 Pray -  silently and out loud and in groups when appropriate – not drawing attention to yourself (it’s not about you).

5 Use short sentence prayer.

6 Walk slowly, but keep moving.

7 Claim God’s promises.

8 Ask Him to remove barriers.

9 Ask God to increase genuine love and compassion in your heart for those He loves.

10 Immerse yourself in the neighborhood – stop to buy a coffee, have a conversation with someone, sit on a bench and observe what’s happening.
